A Gene Mutation for Excess Alcohol Consumption: A Study

The debate over whether or not genetics come into play with respect to alcoholism may see resolution in the near future. Researchers in the UK have discovered a gene responsible for regulating the consumption of alcohol, and that a mutation of this gene may predispose individuals to teen alcohol abuse.

Both genetic and environmental factors have to be considered when reviewing the basic causes of drug addiction and alcoholism. Both are equally important, though to some extent environmental factors can be managed.

Drinking too much can weaken the immune system and it makes our body much easier targeted for disease. Alcohol causes the pancreas to produce toxic substances that can eventually lead to pancreatic, a dangerous inflammation and swelling of the blood vessels in the pancreas that prevents proper digestion.
